Why does BMI have to be involved if someone is handling the program locally?
Networking is important. BMI's purpose is to serve as a resource base and network hub in the province. BMI also determines program guidelines, and establishes standards for the basic structure and content of the training you receive locally.
Who is running them and what all do they do?
Programs are coordinated by an appointee from a community, business, or economic development agency in your area. In addition to program administration and some training, your coordinator will serve as your main contact in guiding you through the mentoring relationship from start to close.
Are there any business mentorship programs operating nearby?
BMI operates province-wide. Contact your local business or economic development agency, for example a Chamber of Commerce or a Community Futures, or view our Initiatives page to find the program closest to you.
What do I need to do to sign up?
Joining is easy. Your local coordinator will provide a registration form and talk to you a little about what you are looking to get out of the opportunity to be a business mentor.
This sounds like a government project; do I have to do any paperwork?
Once you have joined the program, paperwork and other administration details are mostly handled by your program coordinator. This gives you more time to spend working with your protégé, and more energy to dedicate to your own business.
