Business Mentorship Institute Of Saskatchewan Inc. (BMI)

Being a Mentor

What would I have to do as a mentor for BMI?
Active engagement is key. The most progress is made by mentorship pairs who collaborate in an exchange of ideas, insights, and experiences. The best protégés are inquisitive, persevering, entrepreneurs who in seeking after their own understanding will challenge you to deepen yours. Rising to that challenge is in the best interests of your own business.

How long do mentoring relationships last?
The amount of time you spend working with your protégé is up to the two of you. To get the most out of the program most matches last at least 6 months. Some last as long as 5 years. This is not a lifetime commitment. When the protégé has learned as much as they can from you, it is time for the relationship to change.

What makes a good mentor?
A good mentor is a role model who leads by example. Honesty, patience, and dedication to the objective of helping someone else to help themselves are key factors that help mentored businesses to grow.

How do I become a Saskatchewan business mentor?
All you have to do to get started is contact the program coordinator nearest you. See our Initiatives page for details.

How does BMI support me once I have volunteered my services?
At BMI, mentors and protégés are of the universal principles of best practice. Through your local community development organization you will not only have access to training, but also to a mentorship mentor that can guide you through the process of mentoring much the same way you will be supporting your own protégé.
